»In this master’s thesis, we presented an analysis of the automated bicycle-sharing system GONM in the Municipality of Novo mesto, with a focus on the user experience during first-time use. We focused on the impact of the initial experience on continued use of the system and examined how perceived difficulties during the first interaction influence user behavior.
We analyzed usage data from 2017 to 2024, including the age structure of users, duration of rentals, choice of bicycle type, and spatial distribution of trips. We conducted field surveys that highlighted the most common issues encountered during first-time use, such as technical malfunctions and complications during registration and login in the mobile application. As part of the analysis, we also addressed the observed decline in interest in the system in recent years.
We found that a negative first experience often leads to discontinuation of use. Based on the results, we proposed improvements such as more consistent maintenance of bicycles, especially electric ones, and smoother operation of the application during initial user interaction. The thesis contributes to understanding user behavior patterns, emphasizes the importance of first impressions, and provides recommendations for improving the GONM system as a key element of sustainable urban mobility.«
